last week, Sebastian Delle Had the opportunity to sit down and talk with legendary singer-songwriter Arlo Guthrie and his wife Marty Ladd over lunch at Sebastian. The two married on December 8, 2021.

Guthrie has not been in the area since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. In November 2020, Guthrie announced his retirement as places were closed, and he and Walad remained on his Massachusetts ranch until November 2021.

I kept in touch with Guthrie throughout the pandemic and provided him with Sebastian’s COVID case numbers. In addition, we often exchange weather photos and talk about current temperatures.

During our conversation with Alice’s Restaurant Singer, I mentioned that I recently found out that his father, Woody Guthrie, knows Bob Dylan. Then Guthrie gave me the history between the two.

In 1961, when Guthrie was 13 years old, Dylan showed up at his home looking for his father, Woody. Guthrie said his father was in the hospital with a medical condition, but 19-year-old Dylan did.

“I was about 13 years old when a young Bob Dylan came home looking for my father. He stood outside the door in these hiking boots or engineering boots,” Guthrie said. Sebastian Delle.

Guthrie said his father was not at home and at a nearby hospital, but invited the 19-year-old inside anyway. They played the harmonica together before Dylan left. After that, Dylan and Woody Guthrie visited in the hospital. Dylan and others were drawn to the center of the world of popular music, Greenwich Village, a section of New York City famous for its nightclubs, bars, and cafés.

Young Guthrie was not of legal age to hang out in places where Dylan and others were drinking or holding court, but being Woody Guthrie’s son had its perks, and despite his young age, he was able to be a part of the scene, watching and listening to some of the singers and the great musicians who started what was then called “The Folk Boom”.

Guthrie’s father was a famous songwriter, and he used to write songs like This land is your landAnd bound for glory, And Union maid For example, but not limited.

During our discussion, Guthrie said he still misses performing in front of people. He’s been on the road for over fifty years and is now enjoying retirement.

As many of you know, Guthrie has lived in the Sebastian area for decades. Ladd moved to the area in 2016 after selling her bed and breakfast name Wild Rose Hostel In Woodstock, New York.

We also enjoyed talking with Ladd, who is happy to be around. It’s funny and quick-witted. Ladd is a great companion for Guthrie, and she helps him with some of his videos on Cameo.

If you don’t know what Cameo is, it allows celebrities and celebrities to send birthdays or other greetings to people for a small fee. For example, you can hear Ladd help with sound effects in one birthday greeting and occasionally display a birthday cake. Check out Arlo Guthrie on Cameo.

Guthrie said he was considering a new album, something he hadn’t done in over a decade. It’s a project he’s still considering, and we’ll let you know when more information becomes available.

Years ago, Guthrie gave free concerts at Sebastian. You can watch this video from 2004 of him performing on the other side of Riverview Park near the water.
